St Lucia Fire Service celebrates 46 years in operation
The Saint Lucia Fire Service proudly celebrates 46 years of service.
Like many other longstanding organizations, many changes have taken place at the Fire Department since it was created in 1974.
"We have progressed significantly through the years, from having 85 fire personnel and four fire stations located in the city of Castries, the towns of Vieux-Fort and Soufriere, and the village of Dennery, to now having an additional five fire stations and a staff complement of over 300 firefighters," Communications Officer at the Saint Lucia Fire Service, Stacy Joseph said.
The SLFS, she noted, also added to the organization 21 civilian staff and recently, 12 EMTs to assist with COVID-19 responses.
On the observance of the SLFS's 46th anniversary, citizens are urged to practice fire safety.
"While being charged with the protection of life and property, we are also advocates for fire safety.
The recent house fire in Cedar Heights, Vieux Fort, should serve as an indication to citizens, that fire safety is everyone's business.
Installing and maintaining working smoke detectors in all enclosed spaces in your home or business, installing fire extinguishers, and formulating and practicing an evacuation plan should be paramount for every household and business place.
Let us work together, for a safer Saint Lucia," Joseph stated.
Loop News wishes all officers and staff at the SLFS Happy 46th Anniversary!
