Vieux Fort fireman may have been a victim of hit and run
The Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) expressed their condolences Monday morning following a tragic accident, which claimed the life of one of their own on Saturday, March 7, 2020.
Dead is 42-year-old Lead Fireman 397 Fitz Andre Charlery of the Vieux Fort Fire Station.
Charlery’s lifeless body was discovered along the Savannes Bay road around 3 am Saturday, March 7, 2020, after a report was made that a vehicle was seen fleeing the scene of an accident and a body was seen on the road.
According to relatives of the deceased, Charlery went out Friday evening with a friend he dropped off minutes before his death.
Relatives are of the view that Charlery’s death was a hit and run.
The motorcycle he rode was found meters away from his body.
Fire officers of the Vieux Fort Station that found his body were unable to resuscitate him after performing CPR on him.
He was transported to the St Jude Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“The management and staff of the Saint Lucia Fire Service wish to extend our deepest and sincerest condolences to the family of LFM 397 Charlery,” Stacy Joseph of the SLFS expressed Monday.
“Mr Charlery was a dedicated officer and we are truly saddened by his passing, “Miss Joseph stated.
Charlery was employed with the fire service for twenty years.
The matter is being investigated by the police.
